Basic structure and types of labels

We will explain the basic structure and types (finished shapes) of labels.

Although the content is basic, there are things to keep in mind when making a selection.

Please check the technical terms and use it as a reference when making a selection (when requesting a quote).

Basic structure of a label

The label is"Surface base material" "Adhesive" "Release paper"It is composed of three elements.

1. Role and types of “surface base material”

surface base material

The surface base material is the surface part of the label and is the base material for printing and processing.

paper base material(General high-quality paper, coated paper, etc.)

It is lightweight, has excellent printability, and has excellent cost performance.

However, it is inferior in water resistance and durability.

film base material(PET, PP, etc.)

Compared to paper-based materials, it has superior water resistance and durability, giving it a luxurious feel.

However, it is more expensive than paper.

Our brand of clean room labels

Staclin tack (clean paper base material)The base material is "impregnated paper" coated with dust-preventing resin. In addition, we have many successful results using white PET base materials for clean rooms.

2. Role and types of “adhesive”

Adhesive is a substance (layer) used to attach labels (stickers) to objects.Select according to the purpose.

Permanent adhesive, strong adhesive:Applications where peeling is a problem, emphasis on weather resistance
Re-peel, temporary adhesion:It may be removed later and can be easily removed.
Super weak viscosity:Used for sticky notes, etc., for applications that require repeated pasting and peeling.

The main systems are as follows.

Acrylic:It has excellent water resistance and weather resistance, and can be used for a wide range of purposes.
Rubber type:It has high initial adhesion and excellent flexibility, making it suitable for outdoor labels.
silicone type:It has excellent heat resistance and water resistance, making it suitable for high-temperature environments and around water.

(For clean room labels, to reduce adhesive residue, acrylic typeThere are many cases to choose from. )

Other systems include:

  • Hot melt adhesive:For high speed coating

  • Rubber type:Emphasis on followability

  • Urethane type:Vibration/shock resistance

3. Role and types of “release paper”

Release paper

The label release paper (separator) serves as the mount for the label.

It also has the effect of protecting the adhesive and improving workability during label manufacturing and processing, and although it is ultimately discarded, it is an important component that affects the quality and performance of the label. .

Types of release paper are broadly classified into paper base materials (high-quality paper, glassine paper, etc.) and film base materials (PET, PP, etc.), and are selected based on use, purpose, and price.

Release paper also has the role of adjusting the amount of force (peel force) applied when peeling off the base material, and those that apply force are called "heavy release" and those that can be easily peeled off are called "light release".

The selection of release paper is left to the design of the label manufacturer, but in the case of custom production with a certain amount, it is possible to specify the type.

For clean rooms, it is necessary to pay attention to the release paper depending on the environment, and we also offer release paper based on clean paper.

Finished shape of label

Labels come in various shapes,It is broadly classified into the following three categories.

sheet finish

sheet finish
sheet finish

▶Applications

At the office laser printerFor output, manually peel and pastecase.

▶Check points

  • Mount size, label size

  • Number of impositions (how many pages per sheet)

  • Slit processing or punching

  • Pitch (interval) for punching

  • Presence of printing (number of colors)

  • Is there any additional processing such as slits or perforations on the back of the release paper?

roll finish

roll finish

▶Applications

For printer output, automatic peeling, etc.

▶Check points

  • Sheet (release paper) width, winding length (outer diameter)

  • Label size, pitch (spacing)

  • Core size (inner diameter), presence or absence of core base material specification

  • Is there an I mark (printed for printer detection) on the back of the release paper?

  • Winding direction (rolling outside the label side or inside the label)

  • Presence of printing (number of colors)

foam finish
(perforation/fold)

▶Applications

For printer output, for automatic machines

▶Check points

  • Sheet (release paper) size (vertical/horizontal)

  • Label size/pitch (spacing)

  • Presence and pitch of sprocket (round hole)

  • Perforation pitch

  • Presence of printing (number of colors)

  • Fold direction (outside or inside the label plane)
